Conservatives denounce efforts by congressional Democrats to abuse the impeachment process for blatantly political ends.
Under the Constitution, impeachment is a remedy to address the grave offenses of “treason, bribery, or other high crimes and misdemeanors.” This is a very high threshold—and one that the allegations presented by the Democrats clearly fail to reach.
The White House has released both the transcript of the phone call in question, and the report filed by the so-called whistleblower. Based on both, there is no evidence that the president violated any federal law in his conduct of our foreign policy with Ukraine, or by any other actions as president.
The impeachment process is only meant to be used when there is serious misconduct by a government official—not when Members of Congress hate the president personally, and don’t like his policies. That is what elections are for.
Moreover, Democrats do not even appear interested in what may be an actual misuse of power by former Vice President Joe Biden to protect and enrich his family through his son’s dealings in Ukraine and China.
Details continue to come out indicating the blatantly partisan nature of this so-called investigation—most recently that the whistleblower went to the Democrat Chairman of the House Intelligence Committee, Rep. Adam Schiff (R-Calif.), before filing his allegations.
The whistleblower did not give the same advanced notification to the Republican-controlled Senate Intelligence Committee. Prior to this revelation, Rep. Schiff claimed on television that “we” had never spoken to the whistleblower, a fact we now know to be false.
It is increasingly becoming clear that this march toward impeachment is nothing more than a partisan coup d’état to overturn the 2016 election and prevent voters from making their own decision as to whether to reelect the president in 2020. It threatens to destroy our democratic process and the stability of the republic.
We denounce these partisan antics that undermine our Constitution. We call on every Member of the House and Senate to stand up to these partisan, orchestrated, well planned attacks against the American electorate and our institutions of government. We urge them to join conservatives in fighting the insanity being played out in the halls of Congress.
