Washington, D.C.
Conservatives strongly endorse the nomination of EJ Antoni to lead the Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS). The Trump administration has inherited a dysfunctional and outdated BLS, an agency whose consistent methodological errors distort economic data and mislead policymakers and the public.
President Trump acted decisively last month by terminating the BLS commissioner and promptly nominated an outstanding replacement to restore order to this critical function of government. We believe EJ Antoni is the right person to restore transparency and trust to the agency.
The BLS has consistently failed to provide accurate and transparent data, eroding public trust and skewing economic policy. The agency’s latest preliminary benchmark revision, released on September 9, 2025, reveals a massive overstatement of job growth by 911,000 jobs for the year ending in March 2025 – the largest revision on record – following an 818,000 job overstatement for 2024.
In other words, the labor market has been weaker for a longer period than previously understood. As one economist noted, “the job market was mostly frozen in 2024.” Moreover, two million jobs that were reported as growth in the final three years of the Biden administration have now been revised away.
These aren’t mere statistics. BLS data drives policy decisions as well as political perception. A transparent and accurate agency is vital to restoring faith in the country’s economic status and projection.
EJ Antoni has had a distinguished economic career at the Heritage Foundation and other prominent public policy institutions and has both the experience and leadership needed to transform the BLS. His commitment to rigorous, transparent methodologies and data integrity will restore trust, ensuring statistics reflect the economic realities American families face and guide sound policy decisions. We urge his swift confirmation.
