Twice in the last year, over 100 conservative leaders have joined to voice strong opposition to the consideration of amnesty in Congress. Yet, about two dozen liberal Republicans are teaming up with Democrats in Congress to thwart the will of the voters by forcing a vote on amnesty for millions of illegal immigrants.
Americans elected President Trump and Republican majorities in Congress on a platform that promised to “oppose any form of amnesty… support building a border wall along our southern border.” Specifically, the 2016 Republican Party Platform called for the rejection of President Obama’s unconstitutional amnesties and which President Trump vowed to end.
Conservatives are united in the belief that the rule of law must be enforced and respected. When it comes to illegal immigration, rewarding those who break our laws encourages more illegal behavior and flies in the face of Constitutional government. It is unfair to those who wait for years to come here legally and chose to become U.S. citizens by respecting the law instead of rejecting it.
With this in mind, we urge Congress and the President to reject any attempt to give amnesty to immigrants who came here illegally or have overstayed their visas.
We urge Republican leaders and members of the House and Senate to keep their campaign promises and continue to stand with the overwhelming majority of the American people for the rule of law and for an immigration system that treats legal immigrants with respect and dignity. Our nation cannot continue to prosper without enforceable borders, the rule of law that applies equally to all, and an enforceable immigration system.
