Conservatives oppose the spending deal negotiated between House Speaker Mike Johnson and Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer, including the plan to pass yet another short-term Continuing Resolution.
The country’s debt has topped $34 trillion. Rather than forcing the necessary funding cuts and defunding the tyranny inflicted on Americans from the Biden administration, this deal continues the funding levels set by former Democratic House Speaker Nancy Pelosi – both in the negotiated text, and the secret “side-deals” which exist outside of the framework of the so-called Fiscal Responsibility Act.
Moreover, this funding deal does nothing to meaningfully manage the crisis at the southern border. President Joe Biden has the tools to control the record-setting crossings into our country but refuses to enforce the law. Rather than being held accountable by Republicans in Congress, this deal simply rewards him.
Conservatives must use their leverage to change the status quo in Washington – not simply argue over rounding errors in the margins. We urge conservatives to vote against this deal and its daisy-chain of Continuing Resolutions which will do nothing but set up yet another omnibus spending bill. Congressional leaders must re-negotiate a spending package that alters the direction of this country, not one that merely sustains it.
