Conservatives support the Chloe Cole Act, legislation that represents an essential step toward protecting America’s children and restoring accountability within the medical system.
Across the country, families are increasingly alarmed by what many see as a disturbing trend in medicine—one in which ideology has overtaken caution and long-standing medical standards when it comes to the treatment of minors. What is pitched as “gender-affirming care” is irresponsible and ideologically driven manipulation carried out under the guise of medicine, inflicting irreversible and terrible damage to children.
The Chloe Cole Act seeks to address this crisis by establishing clear legal protections for minors and ensuring that medical providers are accountable for interventions that can permanently alter a child’s body.
Named for detransitioner Chloe Cole, whose courageous testimony has brought national attention to the long-term consequences individuals experience after undergoing medical transition procedures as minors, this legislation recognizes both the vulnerability of young people and the responsibility of institutions entrusted with their care.
The Chloe Cole Act responds to these concerns in several important ways. The bill protects minors from medical transgender interventions, including puberty blockers, cross-sex hormones, and surgical procedures, by placing clear liability on clinics and hospitals that perform or facilitate such treatments on children. It also establishes a private right of action, allowing individuals who received these interventions as minors—and their families—to pursue accountability and justice for reckless, non-evidence based, and ideologically motivated care.
Children deserve protection from experimental procedures that cause life-altering harm, particularly those that jeopardize their safety, dignity, and innocence. Unfortunately, far too many medical institutions and practitioners have put political views and trends ahead of their duty to do no harm.
The conservative movement has long stood for the protection of children, the rights of families, and the principle that powerful institutions must be held accountable when they cause harm. The Chloe Cole Act embodies those principles. We urge Congress to swiftly consider the legislation and urge its passage.
